2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE Sedan

Mercedes-Benz ventured into the electric vehicle (EV) market by introducing its EQ sub-brand, with the successful launch of the EQS sedan in 2022. The EQS, essentially an all-electric version of the iconic Mercedes S-Class flagship, paved the way for the new EQE sedan, a midsize offering that follows in its footsteps. Despite its smaller size and more affordable price point, the EQE doesn’t compromise on power and luxury, making it an attractive choice for environmentally conscious buyers.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE comes in four trim levels, starting with the base EQE 350+ and reaching the high-performance AMG EQE variant. In terms of range, the EQE is estimated to offer up to 400 miles on a single charge, although real-world testing is needed to verify this figure. Additionally, there’s an EQE SUV version in the pipeline, adding to the model lineup.

While there are currently no direct competitors in its class, the more affordable BMW i4 provides a smaller and sportier alternative. On the higher end, you have the pricier Porsche Taycan and the related Audi e-tron GT, both of which are exceptional EVs. The new Mercedes EQE positions itself as a balanced choice, offering a middle ground between various electric vehicles.

For the 2024 model year, the EQE Sedan remains largely unchanged, continuing its first-generation production without significant updates.

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV represents a shift in the electric vehicle market towards larger, luxurious models with improved power and range. It offers a practical choice with a range of approximately 280 miles on a single charge, making it one of the most accessible EVs from Mercedes-Benz. The introduction of the high-performance AMG EQE 4MATIC+ adds excitement to the lineup.

The EQE SUV maintains Mercedes-Benz’s hallmark qualities, including exceptional interior quality, advanced technology, and robust electric power. It’s designed for long-distance travel and comes with two years of complimentary DC fast-charging for convenience on road trips.

Buyers can choose from different powertrain options, including a range-focused EQE 350+ and a more powerful EQE 500, with the potential for power upgrades through software updates. However, the vehicle’s main drawback is its limited cargo space compared to rivals.

Inside, the EQE SUV features a futuristic cabin with ambient lighting and advanced infotainment. It offers ample headroom for tall passengers but falls short in terms of cargo space. The vehicle offers competitive range and charging capabilities, making it a strong contender in the midsize electric SUV market. However, it’s essential to note that its luxury comes at a higher price point compared to some competitors.

2024 Mazda CX-90

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is a new three-row SUV designed for families, offering seating configurations for six, seven, or eight passengers. It boasts an upscale interior with premium materials and a sleek design, providing a luxury car-like experience. The CX-90 is available with two turbocharged gas engines and a plug-in hybrid, all offering powerful and engaging performance. It stands out with sporty handling and standard all-wheel drive for added traction in various conditions. The infotainment system features large screens but relies on a rotary dial controller rather than a touchscreen. The SUV offers 11 trim levels, a spacious interior with comfortable seating, and competitive cargo space. It is estimated to achieve good fuel economy, and towing capacity varies by trim level. However, the premium features of the CX-90 come with a higher price point.

2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6

Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 is a refreshing addition to the predominantly SUV-focused EV market, offering a sedan alternative. Despite design debates, its aerodynamic form provides a remarkable 361 miles of driving range.

This well-equipped midsize sedan offers the interior space of a large sedan, thanks to its dedicated EV platform. It stands nearly alone in the dwindling sedan market and competes with the Tesla Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Polestar 2, and BMW i4.

While it may have less power than some rivals, its ample interior space caters to mainstream drivers. The Ioniq 6 is longer and roomier than most competitors, with only the Mach-E offering more passenger space.

While the Model 3 and Mach-E come at a lower price, thanks to price cuts and federal tax credits, the BMW and Polestar are pricier and lack tax credits.

Key highlights include multiple powertrains, two battery choices, a comfortable modern interior, and affordability in the EV market. Downsides are a small trunk and design compromises affecting rear headroom.

Despite not having a direct competitor, the Ioniq 6 excels in range and efficiency. It may lack power and sportiness but offers a mainstream appeal. Its cabin is the roomiest, quietest, and most comfortable among competitors. However, its infotainment system lags.

Although the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Aero may be a rival, it’s not expected in the US market until late 2023 or early 2024. Overall, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 stands as an eye-catching, five-seat electric sedan, offering an alternative to the inundated SUV EV market and possibly challenging the top-selling Tesla Model 3.

2024 Toyota Sienna

The 2024 Toyota Sienna revolutionizes the minivan segment with exceptional fuel efficiency, achieving 36 mpg in combined city and highway driving through its hybrid powertrain. This minivan stands out in a field dominated by V6 engines. It also offers all-wheel drive by adding a third electric motor to the rear wheels, making it ideal for wet-weather regions.

Inside, the Sienna boasts a premium SUV-like cabin with high-quality materials, precise fit-and-finish, and various useful features like hands-free-opening side doors and several active safety aids. The cockpit-style front compartment sets it apart from other minivans.

However, there are some downsides. The four-cylinder engine can feel strained during high-speed acceleration, and the Sienna lacks removable second-row seats, limiting versatility and overall cargo space compared to rivals.

Nonetheless, the Sienna remains an attractive option for those seeking efficient and stylish family transportation. For the 2024 model year, the Toyota Sienna’s sport XSE trim gets a new optional Premium package that includes leather upholstery and ventilated front seats.

2024 Ram 2500

The 2024 Ram 2500, originally designed for commercial purposes, has successfully transitioned into the personal and dual-use markets. This heavy-duty pickup offers impressive towing and hauling capabilities, ranking alongside top competitors like Ford and Chevrolet. The lineup boasts all-terrain trims such as the Rebel and Power Wagon, enhancing its off-road prowess. One of its standout features, recognized by most critics, is its luxurious interior, setting a high standard in its segment.

Buyers have the flexibility to choose between two powertrains: a standard 6.4-liter V8 gasoline engine producing 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, or the optional Cummins six-cylinder turbodiesel. While the diesel engine may not match the V8 in terms of horsepower, it compensates with an impressive 850 lb-ft of peak torque, making it the preferred choice for those who frequently tow heavy trailers.

Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the unique qualities of the Rebel and Power Wagon trims. These models offer increased ground clearance compared to the standard 2500 lineup, along with Bilstein dampers and larger all-terrain tires. The Power Wagon takes it a step further with electronic locking front and rear differentials, enhancing its off-road capabilities.

Ram designers have gone the extra mile to cater to customers who tow valuable trailers, boats, and off-road equipment. The consumer-oriented versions of the Ram 2500 feature opulent leather-trimmed interiors, user-friendly 12-inch portrait-oriented touchscreens, and powerful Harman Kardon audio systems. Furthermore, the Ram 2500 delivers a comfortable ride quality, thanks to its standard coil-spring or optional air-spring rear suspensions.

While heavy-duty pickups are often associated with commercial applications, the 2024 Ram 2500 proves to be equally adept at serving as a high-end personal vehicle. It can be tailored to meet individual preferences, ranging from basic to luxurious configurations. When properly equipped, this robust pickup can tow up to an impressive 20,000 pounds, making it a versatile choice for various needs. As of the 2024 model year, the Ram 2500 continues with minimal changes, maintaining its reputation as a top contender in the segment.
